Limited to 20 dogs - Pre-Entry Required

CGC is a certification program that is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community.  The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club.

“The purpose of the CCA is a non-competitive format which will provide informative assessments, with written reports and verbal discussion by knowledgeable evaluators, of the conformation qualities of individual Golden Retrievers.  The evaluators selected for this event have been approved by the CCA committee of the Golden Retriever Club of America based on their merit, experience and knowledge of the breed.” - GRCA

Handler Eligibility

  • Dogs with majors are not eligible to be shown in Conformation/Sweepstake Classes.

  • Professional handlers may exhibit only dogs that they own or co-own.  Dogs do NOT have to reside with the professional handler in order to be exhibited by them on the day of the match.

  • Dogs with Obedience titles may enter classes in which they have titles For Exhibition Only (FEO).
  • Wins at Sanctioned Matches carry no AKC points nor do scores in Obedience or Rally count toward earning titles.

Ribbons & Rosettes

Ribbons will be awarded for all class placements
 

Prizes

Adult Conformation: Best of Breed, Best of Opposite Sex, Best Veteran
Puppy Conformation: Best Puppy, Best of Opposite Sex Puppy
Junior Showmanship: Best Junior Handler
Obedience: High in Match (from Regular Classes)

Sweepstakes: The club will retain 35%. The remainder will be divided as follows:
First in each of the classes 15% of the entry fees of that class
Second in each class 7.5% of the entry fees of that class
Third in each class 5% of the entry fees of that class
Fourth in each class 2.5% of the entry fee of that class
Best in Sweeps 20%
Best of Opposite 15%

From Washington, DC and Points North:
Take I-395 south to I-495 north;
Follow I-495 north to I-66 west;
Follow I-66 west to Virginia Route 234 south (Bypass), exit 44;
Follow Virginia Route 234 south (Bypass) to the 6th traffic light (Business 234), turn left;
Proceed approximately 1 mile to the Fair Grounds entrance on the left.

From Richmond, VA and Points South & East
:
Take I-95 north to Virginia Route 234 north (Dumfries Road), exit 152;
Follow Virginia Route 234 north approximately 14 miles to Business Route 234 and turn right;
Proceed approximately 1 mile to the Fair Grounds entrance on the left.

From Frederick, MD and Points West:
Take US Route 15 south to I-66 east (at Haymarket, VA);
Follow I-66 east to Virginia Route 234 south (Bypass), exit 44;
Follow Virginia Route 234 south (Bypass) to the 6th traffic light (Business 234), turn left;
Proceed approximately 1 mile to the Fair Grounds entrance on the left.
